Frequently Asked Questions

Review F.A.Q.s regarding services offer with Huberty Counseling & Brain Health.

Q: DO YOU PROVIDE SERVICES FOR MINORS?

A: Huberty Counseling does not provide services to minors. Huberty Counseling provides individual psychotherapy to adults, 18 years and older. We would be happy to offer referrals to child and family psychotherapists if requested.

Q. YOU USE A LOT OF TECHNOLOGY. IS IT HIPAA COMPLIANT?

A. Yes! I take your information and confidentiality very seriously. With that being said, I utilize HIPAA compliant software and have Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with the technology I use. However, as with any technology, the software is not without risks and appropriate precautions should be taken. You are encouraged to use a secure and password protect internet connection, as well as password, to protect your information, apps, and electronic devices. Of important note, I do have an online presence on social media and the internet with my business and at the professional level. At no time will I follow, like, repost, or communicate with individuals I currently see or have seen for therapy services. Individuals who decide to utilize social media accounts that are connected with me should be aware of the risks involved in regards to confidentiality and do so at their own risk.

Q. IS THERAPY CONFIDENTIAL?

A. Yes and no. I am bound legally and ethically to protect your confidentiality and take privacy and confidentiality very seriously. If you are over the age of 18, it is your right to provide me permission to speak to a third party (e.g. school, physician, psychiatrist). At any time and without consequence, you have the right to revoke this permission. In general, I am required, by law, to protect the confidentiality of who I treat. Without written consent from you and/or a parent/guardian, I cannot release information to another person. However, there are exceptions to that rule: 1. If you plan to harm yourself. 2. If you plan to seriously harm another identified person. 3. If child abuse, elder abuse, or dependent adult abuse is suspected.

If any of the above criteria are met, I am required to contact the appropriate authorities.

Q. WHAT IS THERAPY LIKE AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

A. Each person’s therapeutic experience is different, and each session is unique. You should feel safe and comfortable in therapy. I work with you to build a strong therapeutic relationship that will facilitate treatment. You will not be judged, yelled at, or mocked for any information that is shared. With the exception of the list above, what we talk about in sessions stays between us. Depending on the treatment and to better assist with treatment goals, you might be asked to complete activities outside of sessions. You have the right to refuse and question treatment interventions. You also have the right to obtain a second opinion without fear of consequences. The second part of this question is very difficult to answer. Some individuals are in therapy for a few months, some for longer. I provide check-ins for treatment goals and progress and we adjust the frequency of therapy sessions as needed. Any barriers to treatment or your progress are openly discussed.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

A: At this time, I do have contracts with multiple insurance companies. Email me for more information.

Answer Continued… What is the expected reimbursement rate for the following procedural codes? Please note, the below codes are not exhaustive. Depending on the nature of sessions, additional codes may need to be utilized.

  • 90791 Psychodiagnostic Evaluation (initial intake session)

  • 90834 Psychotherapy (45 minutes)

  • 90837 Psychotherapy (60 minutes)

  • 90853 Group Therapy

If I do not take your insurance and you choose to receive services through me, I require payment at the time of our session (credit/debit cards, HSA/FSA cards). I can then provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Prior to our first session, I strongly encourage you to reach out to your insurance company to obtain information regarding your out-of-network benefits for reimbursement rates, and deductibles. It is your responsibility to submit receipts to the insurance company for reimbursement if I am not a covered provider

Some helpful questions to ask your insurance company when considering an out-of-network provider:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health care? If so, what are they?

  • What is my deductible? Have I met that yet?

  • Does this coverage include remote/online therapy for out-of-network providers? If so, is there an end date to that coverage?
